Bedford is the middle of our Bedfordshire work and about an hour and a half from Birmingham. The town centre and the streets around it have the clinics, dental practices, offices, restaurants and converted houses that most of our work comes from; Kempston, Elstow and the A421 business parks have the workshops, warehouses and trade counters; and Cardington and Wixams are where the new commercial and residential building is.
What we do in Bedford
- Electrical installations for practices, offices, shops, workshops and warehouses, and the EICR programmes for landlords and agents.
- Fire alarms to BS 5839-1 in commercial buildings and interlinked Aico alarms in HMOs and flats, as an Aico Expert Installer.
- Emergency lighting, installed and tested annually.
- Networking for practices and offices, including the practice management and imaging networks a clinic depends on.
- Access control and door entry for practices, offices and blocks of flats.
- CCTV for shops, car parks, lobbies and yards.
Practices and clinics
Bedford has a dental or medical practice on most of its main roads, many in converted Victorian houses. The work is surgery refits, X-ray room wiring, decontamination rooms, fire and emergency lighting to the regulator's expectations and the EICR, all planned around clinic days and handed back clean before the next list. See healthcare and dental.
Landlords and HMOs
A lot of Bedford's older housing is let as flats and HMOs. For the landlords and agents who run it, the work is the EICR cycle, interlinked fire detection to the grade the licence requires, emergency lighting on the stairs and door entry with fobs that are cancelled at the end of each tenancy, run on a schedule across the portfolio and reported in one document.
