Electrical Installations

New installations, upgrades, rewires and periodic inspection for commercial, industrial and multi-occupancy premises, designed and certified to BS 7671.

Electrical installation is where Dynamik began and it is still most of what we do. Commercial and industrial premises across Birmingham and the West Midlands: new supplies and distribution, fit-outs and refurbishments, rewires of tired buildings, lighting schemes, machine and kitchen supplies, EV charging, and the periodic inspection that shows all of it is still safe.

What we do

  • Distribution and mains: new and replacement distribution boards, sub-mains, three-phase supplies, busbar and rising mains, panel boards and switchgear, and the liaison with the network operator when the incoming supply has to change.
  • Fit-outs and refurbishments: small power, lighting, containment and data for offices, shops, clinics, restaurants and industrial units, working from the architect's or designer's drawings or producing our own.
  • Rewires: full or phased rewiring of older commercial buildings and blocks of flats, planned so that the building stays in use.
  • Lighting: LED schemes with presence and daylight control for offices, warehouses and car parks, including the lux calculations and the controls commissioning.
  • Machine and process supplies: supplies, isolators and control wiring for production machinery, compressors, extraction, commercial kitchens and refrigeration.
  • EV charging: workplace and fleet chargers, with the load assessment and the DNO notification.
  • Inspection and testing: Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICR), remedial work from a report, and fixed-wire testing programmes for property portfolios.
  • Fault-finding and repairs: tripping circuits, intermittent faults, damaged cabling, and the repairs that follow.

How the work runs

An engineer visits first. On an existing building that means opening the boards, reading the previous certificates if there are any, and understanding how the building is used before anything is designed. The quotation that follows names the equipment, the standard it is designed to and the way the work will be phased around your hours. Power-off work is done in the evening, at the weekend or in a planned shutdown; a trading building is not left without power in the day.

On site the containment is tidy and the circuits are labelled. Every circuit is tested as it is finished, and the results go on the certificate rather than being written up from memory at the end. The building is handed over with the certificate, the test schedule, the as-installed drawings and the date the first periodic inspection falls due.

Certificates and the standard

All of our electrical work is designed, installed and tested to BS 7671, the IET Wiring Regulations, and to the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989. A new installation or circuit is handed over with an Electrical Installation Certificate; an alteration that does not add a circuit with a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate; an inspection with an Electrical Installation Condition Report. Each one records the test results, the engineer who did the work and the date the next inspection is recommended, which is what your insurer, your landlord or a regulator will ask to see.

Equipment

We install Hager distribution boards, consumer units and protective devices on most of our work. They are well made, well supported in the UK and their parts are available for years, which matters when a board is extended a decade later. Where a client's specification or an existing installation calls for another make, we fit that instead.

Who this is for

Offices and managed buildings, clinics and dental practices, hotels, restaurants and bars, factories and warehouses, and landlords of flats and HMOs. The pages on our sectors describe how the work differs in each. We do not take on individual domestic jobs.

FAQ

Questions about Electrical Installations

If yours is not here, ask us and an engineer will answer, not a sales desk.

New circuits and installations come with an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC). Smaller alterations that do not add a circuit come with a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate. Both record the test results and are signed by the engineer who did the work.

BS 7671 recommends an Electrical Installation Condition Report every five years for most commercial premises and offices, every three years for industrial premises, and annually for some higher-risk environments such as swimming pools. Your insurer or landlord may set a shorter interval.

Yes. Boards, mains work and anything that needs the power off is usually done in the evening, at the weekend or in a planned shutdown so that the building keeps working during the day.

Yes. Three-phase distribution, sub-mains, busbar, machine supplies and the controls around them are a normal part of our industrial work.

Yes, for workplace car parks and fleet depots, including the load assessment and the DNO notification that goes with them.

Both. Fault-finding, repairs and the remedial items from an EICR are a large part of what we do, and we fix them once, properly.
