Industrial & Warehousing

Three-phase distribution, machine supplies, high-bay lighting and detection that covers a large open space: industrial premises are where good design shows in the running costs.

In a factory, a workshop or a warehouse the electrical installation is part of the production line. A supply sized wrongly costs output; a lighting scheme designed badly costs money every month; a fire detection system that cannot see across a high-bay roof fails the one time it matters. We work in manufacturing, engineering, food production, printing, logistics and trade counter premises across the West Midlands, around shifts.

What an industrial site usually needs from us

  • Three-phase distribution: panel boards, busbar trunking, sub-mains to production areas and machine supplies with local isolation, designed with the diversity the plant actually has rather than the nameplate total.
  • Machine installation and relocation: supplies, isolators and control wiring for new machinery, and the disconnection and reconnection when a line is moved.
  • High-bay lighting: LED schemes with daylight and presence control across racking and production floors, with the lux levels and the uniformity the task needs and the running cost shown on the quotation.
  • External and yard lighting, loading bays and car parks.
  • Fire detection for large open spaces: beam detectors and aspirating systems where point detectors cannot reach, interfaced to the sprinklers, the shutters and the extraction.
  • Emergency lighting on long escape routes across a production floor and in windowless areas.
  • CCTV covering yards, loading bays, goods in and out and the perimeter, with ANPR on the gate and the retention set for a stock loss investigation.
  • Access control on the gate, the office, the stores and the tool crib, and time zones for shift patterns.
  • Networking across a large floor: fibre between cabinets, ruggedised outlets at machines, Wi-Fi for scanners and vehicles.
  • Periodic inspection: the three-yearly EICR BS 7671 recommends for industrial premises, and the remedial work done in planned shutdowns.

How we work around production

A planned shutdown is expensive, so we design the work to need as few as possible and to use each one fully: new boards built and tested alongside the old, new cabling run live, and the changeover done in one planned window with everyone knowing what is being switched when. Where there is no shutdown we work nights and weekends. The site rules, the permits and the inductions are followed, and our engineers arrive with the RAMS already read.

Energy

Lighting is where an industrial building usually wastes the most, and a high-bay LED scheme with controls is one of the few electrical jobs that pays for itself on a known timescale. We show the running cost of the existing scheme and the new one on the same page of the quotation so the decision can be made on numbers.

Where we do this
